This is the first I have heard of this and do be honest I think is much ado about nothing. They have a tenancy agreement from shannex from 2006, does not say which place of the shannex group, it requires roughly $2000 as a security deposit. My first impulse is to believe that what they are seeing is not nursing home but those assisted living places or high end seniors buildings. These are basicly communal elderly living with pleasant surroundings, an apartment really where cleaning services are provided with someone to assist with some things, when you get to the point where you need nursing care, you gotta go.(Berkley) These are basicly rich folk places, so a seniors apartment complex with a few extras. Why would they not have to provide a damage deposit, the same as any other apartment complex. Now I may be wrong as they talk about daily rates but I doubt I am, nursing homes get so much cash for gov for maintenance etc, for nursing homes, they get nothing from gov for these other places. Hell even nursing home renos are paid in large part by grants from government. a non starter

I read this article earlier, Mom. I was thinking the same thing as you...the article wasn't specific to which "nursing homes" this applies but this clause says it all, I believe:
""This deposit shall be held in a non-interest-bearing account and will be applied to any outstanding amounts upon the termination of this agreement. No deposit shall be required for residents admitted for respite stays."
They're probably taking about the seniors who go into the swanky senior's digs like the Berkley. Those seniors can afford it.

And those are not "nursing homes" Double D blew it on this one. 90% of the folks in those places would not even meet the criteria for home care, let alone nursing home care. The moment they need such is the termination of the agreement.

Hey, he got to bash the govt in the Leg, it got lots of media coverage, and most people won't bother to listen to the explanation when one is forthcoming, assuming our lazy media bothers to provide one. From a cynical political point of view, he used the system well.

Yesterday in the corridor outside the Leg Chamber, Paul Withers got DD to admit that he had made a mistake. It was a grudging admission, practically had to pry it out of him.
See that reported anywhere else?
I didn't think so.

Have you ever seen one of these assholes that run this province come out and admit to a specific mistake? I didn't think so.

ATV reported that he apologized to the minister for his mistake, unless I heard it wrong. In either case whoever screwed this up has some explaining to do for making DD look like an idiot, some researcher must have gotten their ass kicked.

Yes, as I said, DD did grudgingly do so.
