Hi Halifax Live

The committee to elect Sheila Fougere has established a Facebook Group.  You will see information and news on the group, before it is processed in the regular news cycle.  I would also like to encourage the mssg board members to visit Sheila's website www.sheilafougere.ca . I haven't read many posts about Sheila's campaign on this forum. I will have campaign members contribute to your conversation leading up to the mayoral vote.

We hope you are active on this thread and post your views and questions. We will make efforts to reply on a timely basis.

Governance is a key element of Sheila's platform. It is not a surprise to anyone here that HRM process is stymied by a bloated council.  I see this is a much debated thread on this forum.  Ideally you will take the time to read her platform, or view her video webisodes to be released in the coming weeks on her Facebook Group.

I will warn you that everyone here has some very honest and well sometimes rather negative opinions!

I am openminded to change and have championed it in a number of private companies often against much resistance especially in Nova Scotia. However, I am still not fully convinced current mayor is as bad as his critics say.  Also nay I be very clear

I'm glad to see this thread, because (as much as I am a supporter of Sheila Fougere), I was beginning to doubt she had a campaign at all.

I am hoping that she will be much more visible and vocal over the coming weeks.

Good to see you here in online form.

I'll pose a question, it's basic, really: Why should we vote for Sheila over the other mayoral candidates?

What change would Sheila Fougere bring to council?

Would she readily support development? How would she support it while still preserving what makes Halifax interesting? Would she be all for development without preservation?

I find myself gravitating towards voting for Sheila more and more - whether I truly feel her position 'jives' with mine, or I just get more and more sick of Kelly I don't know... :)

Me too. I just feel like it is time to put someone new in there.

I feel voting for change for the sake of change is exactly the wrong reason.  I will examine the various election issues and campaigns and make my decision.  Right now Peter gets my vote unless I am given a compelling reason someone else can do a better job.

I'm still leaning toward Peter Kelly. I continue to feel that no one has stepped up to give him an honest run for the money.

He's an idiot?

You say "voting for the sake of change" - when your mayor is an idiot, you're not voting for somebody else just because you woke up on the left side of the bed this morning, you're voting for somebody else because you feel the status quo is not in your best interests.

NOt sure of your point.  What I am saying is that maybe the Status quo is not perfect but unless I am given a compelling reason to vote for a change that will be positive I will NOT vote for change for the sake of change. Far too many people move their vote around soley because they do not like who is in now and that goes for all levels of government.

Much like in Business.  I may noy be completely happy with a given supplier of a given product or service but I dont change them without a damn good reason.

Politics is a lot like business but it isn't business -- I think politicians should move along every now and then, either to new positions or into other realms, like business. Kelly, I like him but genuinely feel he has done his time in this particular position. To me, it is truly time for a change, Sheila is the only real contender for the job this time, that's why I'll probably vote for her. That's just me. I'm not against Peter Kelly but right now, HRM council is lacking a certain type of leadership. Am I 100% sure Sheila Fougere can provide that? No. But I think the odds are that even just by changing the face of leadership in our municipality, we will take a step forward. In the very least, wake a few people up.
