Here is the latest wisdom from Phil Pacey, President of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia:

Mr. Pacey states that the Public is very proud of the View Planes legislation enacted in 1974 -  For the record, I am a member of that public, and I am NOT proud of that piece of legislation.

We are NOT well served by the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia .

Given all the attention and money that is lavished on downtown Halifax, we should be maximizing our revenue potential.  Revenue from this source could provide the amenities we are all seeking - stadium, hockey rinks, community centers etc.

Anyone living off the peninsula must be pissed - even some who live on the peninsula are pissed. Look at the jobs that are being delayed and the extra tax revenue from an improved building all because it protrudes a meter into a view plane about 2 kilometers from the Citadel!

We are all saying change is needed - vertical development!

This is so sad. The Heritage Obstructionists are at it again and doing what they do so well....obstruct. I'm another member of the public who is NOT proud of this old fart law. It's way past the time to take the power away from the Obstructionists who in my opinion are one of the main reasons why Halifax has stagnated in the last 40 years.

The city of Halifax, yes, I consider the HRM to be Halifax, needs to stop having such silly and childish debates with the children who want to keep us in 1960 with quaint little 3 story buildings from a bygone era...The best way to unleash the potential of this city to actually encourage money to be invested here – the talk needs action to back it up!

There are a number of projects that have been green lit by the city, but the developers are now dragging their heels. Can't really blame the Heritage fanatics about that. The King's Wharf in Dartmouth has stalled. The Convention Centre is going no where. The one down by the Morris Tea building has stalled.

You can't blame everything on the heritage nuts.

This Fenwick reno will go ahead. They will get a variance. It is really stupid to oppose this reno.

The problem of course if that the heritage types are assholes and fuck nuts because they know if the can drag out the process and make it as difficult as possible, a lot of developers will simply walk away rather then continue to waste money because the longer it goes on, the more expensive the projects become. And Kings Wharf in Dartmouth has not stalled either…Even the stupid golf course has view planes in Dartmouth, the entire system is rigged for a specific outcome...

And I'm pretty sure during the public consultations leading up to Kings Wharf, somebody in connection with Brightwood stated that they were in favor of this project.

The Heritage Trust has been very successful in creating an environment where if you are against the view planes and or against the rampart rule, then you are branded as being anti heritage.  That is just NOT the case.   I am very pro vertical development,  and very pro the effective re-use of our built heritage - even if that includes gutting them and just saving the facades -  rather that than have them fall dormant and deteriorate into an embarrassing eyesore.

I am anti Heritage Trust and the dis service they do this City and its built heritage.

So great there is positive economic news - someone wants to invest in Nova Scotia rather than pull out and/or seek a government grant.  This is so much better than an empty lot producing no taxes -  GE maybe you will finally get your sidewalks.

Heritage Trust should be happy -  look at the absolutely incredible view of the Citadel you will have!
