Saw this on twitter earlier today.  Not sure why they would want to do that to such an iconic piece of the downtown, it I am interested to hear the explanation.

It is a strange time of year to be painting anything outside.

Nobody cares about this other than Tim "This Place Sucks" Bousquet and his merry band of come from aways who do not have any sense of history other than what they know in their short, limited time
in HRM.  Who are the most vocal?  Douchey Bousquet, Brenden Sommerhalder from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and oh gosh, lookie lookie, it's our dear Bethany Horne who high tailed it back to Ontario but will soon be departing for the warmer climes of Ecuador.

Brenden Sommerhalder‏@BSommerhalder

 I know you've all done this already, twitter, but I just woke up to it. So here goes: They painted over the Morse's Teas sign???

Bethany Horne‏@bbhorne

@BSommerhalder Oh, no :(

Note to man about town Sommerhalder and air head Horne, history in Halifax goes back further than your arrival at St. Mary's or King's.  Way back.

Morses Tea Building

Another reason why Bryn Jones-Vaillencourt was such a featherweight in District 5 (Dart Centre) election.

I am assuming this is simply about money. Morse's Tea did not pay any naming rights to have their sign associated with the building. I would imagine that as soon as someone ponies up money for naming rights a new sign will go up.

To me it is a shame that the historic sign was removed. I think the name had more benefit than the new owner realises. To me it is a small example of how developers do not have interest in preserving the history of Halifax. I understand that the new owner can do as he like, but I can not see the up side here.

I suppose people who feel it important could take up a collection and have the Morse's Tea sign re-established.   Heritage Trust could coordinate that; will be interesting to see how many feel it important.
