It sounds like there are some serious alcohol problems within HPD. Not just with these recent drunk driving arrests. But also some other serious charges that are working their way through the court. Is it normal for a department of this size to have this many officers charged with criminal offences over the past year?

Its a good question.  Sure seems high or is it just higher profile.  I know quite a number of police officers socially and do not know of any of them to be anything more than your standard run of the mill social drinkers ( 1 beer after golf or hockey or a few drinks at a party.).

IT sure seems out of whack recently.  No real explanation.

This is so unfortunate for both the individual and for HPD.
HPD has had far too many incidents of concern about their officers.  Many of the issues handles internally , with only the most serious ones making it to the public.
No wonder the recent try by the Federal Government to pas the Internet spying Bill resulted in a sharp and clear NO.
I think we only trust the Police when they are dealing with someone else, but when it comes to us as individuals, we do not!  I think that mis trust is warranted.
I think we should not necessarily judge a persons professional character by their personal life although they can certainly mirror one another.  They can definitely be silos.  I will use the business world as an example.  I know some excellent business people who are dedicated, ethical, treat their people well, successful and outward pillars of society but are miserable assholes to their family.  I am against this internet bill as I beleive our privacy is invaded far enough already but I do not Mistrust the police based on these cases or in general./
