A new report says Nova Scotia ranks among the provinces with more health-care resources per capita, and it gets top marks for its health system.
According to the study, some findings of which were released Wednesday in Edmonton, the province is in good shape when it comes to health-care providers, medical equipment, available doctors and hospital beds.
“Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Newfoundland and Labrador have more per-capita resources … than the other Canadian provinces,” a news release said.
Research findings released at a conference in the Alberta capital were published by the Conference Board of Canada. The full report, including overall grades, is to be published Thursday.
The board has been benchmarking provincial health systems. Ninety indicators were assessed in the categories of lifestyle factors, health status, health resources and health-care system performance.
“Spending larger sums of money on health care does not necessarily translate into better performance. It is how money is spent, rather than how much, that will deliver better value for Canadians,” board spokeswoman Gabriela Prada said in the release.
It said Nova Scotia received an A grade in various categories, including overall health-care performance and resources. With respect to available resources, the province got an A in numbers of family doctors and specialists.

Holy Christ, if we are that good as compared to the others, then the others must be in some real hurting shape.

I always liked Dr Hamm. Fantastic Premier. Rodney was an aberration. He's long gone.

That's exactly what I was thinking, Mom. For instance, how in the hell did this province get an A in numbers of family doctors and specialists??

Reading between the lines GE and considering this is coming from number crunchers, I would say this is a preamble to an assault on the provinces federal contributions. this will be used as a way of saying why should a poor province like NS get as much as it gets from the feds when places like alberta which are richer cannot do it. Justification for the percentage cuts coming to us while alberta will get a lot more. they are merely setting us up.
