Should we (government) be helping this family with their kids?

I suspect we will now that her story is public, but why does it take that to ensure someone gets help?

Why would "we" ? She got GBS. That happens to people from time to time. It sucks but they recover. There's no evidence it had anything to do with the H1N1 shot - that's just her guess. She's self employed so has no sick leave etc, which also sucks but unless there's some proven link between the shot and her GBS I don't see any reason the government should be involved.

But they've even failed to contact her to investigate, even though they acknowledge GBS is a 0.87 in a million acknowledged issue with H1N1 vaccines.  Odd don't you think?

Hey if there's evidence that the shot caused the GBS then maybe something should be done... but it doesn't sound like anyone established any facts in the matter. You can't jump to have Social Services or some taxpayer fund pay for a person's childcare based on conjecture and suspicions. Think of the implications with potential additional claims - wowzers there would be lineups in every city.

Nobody gets forced to get the shot.

No Caper not forced into.  Pressured into by fearmongering, yes.  as the article says the greedy pharma companies are laughing all the way to the bank and governments around the world have egg on their faces.

We didn't cause an earthquake either, but we sure do lay the dough out when people need it.

Why treat this Canadian family any different?
